“Eating is one of life’s great pleasures—I’m determined to help clients develop a more positive relationship with food and simultaneously, be healthier doing it!” – Christine Shaddick, Registered Dietitian with Spectrum Nutrition.
Christine Shaddick is a Registered Dietitian and the longest standing member of the Spectrum Nutrition Dietetic Team. Professionally, Christine takes her title ‘Dietitian’ very seriously but to her family, especially her father, she is often regarded in jest as “the food police” as Christine is determined to ensure her family and friends achieve balanced and healthy eating. Christine jokingly admits that sometimes this means sneaking All Bran Buds into hamburger patties and pureed black beans into chocolate cake! Regardless, Christine considers herself a true food enthusiast. Her interest in nutrition stems from a childhood spent hands deep in pastry and homemade bread dough, learning to follow family recipes and bedtime reading that included the latest edition of Bon Appetite Magazine. But her love of food didn’t end there! Christine recalls that in high school she enrolled in the maximum number of home-economics cooking classes the school would allow, which in addition to learning to cook, peaked her interest in the field of nutrition.
Personally, Christine loves to cook, share recipes, try new and exotic foods and dine out. She loves everything from Indian food to proper English wine gums and makes room for all these foods as part of her balanced diet. She maintains an active lifestyle with lots of long runs, swimming, pilates and even the occasional boot camp.
Christine made the decision to pursue a degree in Nutritional Sciences at the University of Western Ontario where she graduated with honours in 2007. She then went on to complete her dietetic internship in Toronto at North York General Hospital in 2009. Christine moved back to Vancouver after the completion of her internship and worked as a clinical dietitian at Capilano Care Centre, a long term care facility in West Vancouver. Christine also has extensive nutritional consulting experience through her work with corporate clients at Medisys Corporate Health Clinic in downtown Vancouver.
Christine feels passionately connected to the fundamental philosophy at Spectrum Nutrition; that every person has their own unique “food culture”. Christine has been quoted saying “It’s my job to help people make food choices that fall within a healthy diet but if quinoa and Brussels sprouts aren’t your thing, don’t sweat it! Following a healthy diet plays out differently in every person’s life, I’m here to make sure you succeed at it!” Christine is committed to providing clients with an evidence-based, individualized approach that makes sense to clients and feels good. She strives to take the stress out of eating by giving clients the tools and support to make healthier food choices that fit their unique lifestyles.
